About Susan Chan

I am of Chinese origin but was born in Burma.  My family emigrated to Australia in 1976.  Although I have been in Australia for many years, I still have fond memories of my birth place.

I hold a degree in Computing Science from University of Technology, Sydney (formerly known as the New South Wales Institute of Technology).   I joined the Bank as a trainee programmer and started my IT career for 16 years.  I also hold a Masters degree in Commerce from University of New South Wales.  Five years ago, I enrolled and completed a Diploma in a Natural Beauty Therapy in the Australasian College of Natural Studies.  I left work 5 years ago to raise my family. Now I am a full time mother.

I have a passion for food and enjoy cooking.   I like to promote Burma and its country, culture and cuisine through my published cookbook – Flavors of Burma – Cuisine and Culture from the Land of Golden Pagodas.  Since the Burmese Cookbook, I have completed a  Chinese cookbook (a niche topic) in 2004 and I am still searching for a publisher.   This book is to promote traditional Chinese soups.   I have also written a draft novel based on friendship. Last year, I started to write a Children’s book and now is in draft mode.

I will be writing various articles such as food recipes (Burmese, Chinese, for toddlers), relationship tips, beauty tips, work related tips, etc.  It is aimed at something for everyone - anyone at any age!  Please note that I do not considered to be an expert but only express my own personal views and experiences.

About Dennis Wong

I was born in Singapore and my family emigrated to Australia in 1977.  I hold a degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of New South Wales.  I joined the same Bank as Susan as a trainee programmer in 1990 and I am currently a Project Manager in IT.  I also hold a Diploma of Therapeutic Massage.

When I was in High School, the constant news of the day were conflicts (wars and verbal threats) between nations and globally we lived in a cloud of nuclear threats.  Consequently, I had numerous ‘spiritual‘ questions about myself and my surroundings such as :

  • What is the purpose of life?
  • Why are we here?
  • Why there are so much inequalities around us? etc.

I developed my own answers to these questions but were very much aware that they were my answers and I never tried to impose them onto others.

At University, my interests turned towards religions (in particular Buddhism) and an interests on Chinese culture, myths and beliefs. One day, my flatmate introduced me to a Chinese Crime Novel by Robert Van Gulik.  It was a fantastic book! Being a crime novel, the details were quiet gruesome (not very Buddhist in nature I know), but Robert’s novel always had those realistic lessons that many of us could learn.  This captured my imagination and I too had written a Chinese Crime Novel of my own with some Buddhism ideas and lessons I feel many could learn and apply.

I hope to use this blog to share my novel with you.  It is my hope that you could help me to suggest editorial and grammatical corrections and in return, I hope you may learn and enjoy the novel as a form of entertainment.  Similarly, I have written a Goal Setting book, through your assistance, I hoped to correct the grammatics of the book and I will offer the Goal Setting book as a free download.

As this shallweblog.com is a work in progress site. I will present to the readers my Goal Setting book first. I will than make this book available for free download. Depending on the response and success from this book, I will present the Chinese Crime Novel next. There are a lot more work required on the Chinese Crime Novel, therefore, lessons learned from the Goal Setting book, I would apply on the Chinese Crime Novel that hopefully will enable a quicker feedback change.

In terms of other blogs. I hope to write a short weekly ‘feel good’ article through my own eyes. In a world full of negative news, I hope to make a tiny difference by going against the trend to introduce some good ordinary news. Other articles I will write would be Electronics, since I do also have a passion for gadgets. All-in-all I hope you would really enjoy reading my blog.
